Make polygons from pattern blocks:

• Choose a pattern block shape other than the green triangle.
• Take 5 of those same pattern blocks.
• Put the pattern blocks together in such a way that whole sides match
• Trace your shape onto a piece of paper so you remember it.
• Make as many different shapes as you can using the same 5 pattern blocks--shapes are considered the same if you can just turn or flip one over to get the other.
• Organize your shapes by how many sides they have. Good geometry words for naming your shapes are:
  • quadrilateral
  • pentagon
  • hexagon
  • heptagon
  • octagon
  • nonagon
  • decagon
  • if you get a shape with more than 10 sides you can just name it with its number (for example: 12-gon)
