Reflection for Teacher Standard 6 (math)
Teachers communicate well.
The teacher uses effective verbal and nonverbal communication techniques as well as instructional media and technology to foster active inquiry, collaboration, and supportive interaction in the classroom
Reflect on the lesson you taught as it shows your communication and lesson planning skills.Your reflection should include:
- Communication strategies you used to encourage children to engage in inquiry. You may wish to include here specific questions or instructions you gave, and ways that you modeled how to work on the problem. You should identify what question(s) children were engaged in trying to solve.
- Communication strategies that you used to encourage children to work together supportively and collaboratively. You may wish to include here instructions you gave on how children should work in together as well as instructions you gave to specific groups during work time.
- Specific things you did to make your communication with the students more clear (modeling, questioning, etc)
- Ways that you used technology to communicate ideas and/or expectations in your lesson. If you were not able to use an instructional technology tool in your lesson, you should discuss here how you would adapt the lesson if you had an interactive whiteboard available to you in your classroom.
