Activites/lessons we did
Assignments
Discuss properties of 2D shapes
1. Make a table of special kinds of triangles
2. Guess my rule game (Saturday)
Do me first (due Tues Feb 9) Write a list of 10 properties.  For each property, identify all of the shapes on your lettered shapes page that have that property.  I'm providing only the first 4 properties:
  1. one and only one symmetry line
  2. rotational symmetry (any angle)
  3. regular polygon (all sides and angles congruent)
  4. at least one set of parallel lines
5-10 are your choice
3. Find all of the shapes that it's possible to make from 2, 3, 4 or 5 equilateral triangles.  Draw and name each shape (Tuesday)
video from class
Do me last (due Friday Feb 12) Find all of the shapes that it's possible to make from 2, 3, or 4 isosceles right triangles.  Draw and name each shape.
Find all of the lines of symmetry and turns for rotational symmetry in alphabet letters (Saturday)
Do me third (due Tues Feb 9) Find all of the lines of symmetry and turns for rotational symmetry for the icons on the reverse side of the alphabet sheet
4. Find triangles on a geoboard that are not congruent.  Identify which ones are isoscles (Saturday)

5. Make translation, rotation and reflection designs
video from in class--how to do it in SMART Notebook.
Do me last (due Friday Feb 12) Make translation, rotation and reflection designs:
  • Make a non-symmetric design on a small-ish square
  • make 12 copies of your design
  • Make a picture using 4 copies of your design, and using only translations (label it: translation design)
  • Make a picture using 4 copies ofyour design, and using only rotations (label it: rotation design)
  • Make a picture using 4 copies of your design (on patty paper) using only reflections (label it: reflection design)

Do me second (due Tuesday Feb 9) Choose one of the 5 primary-appropriate learning activities.  Write a paragraph telling:
  • why you like the lesson
  • how you could use technology or other non-verbal props to communicate in the math lesson
  • how children can collaborate in the lesson
  • what children can investigate and figure out in the lesson
