Hints for some ratio problems:
Trees and Flowers:
- Note, that you do not start off knowing how many trees and
flowers I have originally, I could have 1 of each, 2 of each, 3 of
each, etc. In fact, I believe I said that I have rather a lot of
trees (though I live in the city, so I don't have that many trees)
- Note that I don't plant any trees, nor do I cut down any trees,
so the number of trees should not change from month to month, only the
number of flowers
- At what point are you actually told "how many" about the
trees/flowers/plants?
- If your first guess didn't yeild a correct answer, you should be
trying a different initial number of flowers and trees.
Bunnies and Dinosaurs
- Once again, notice that you don't know how many bunnies and dinos
you start with--you have several choices. If your first choice
didn't work out, guess again.
- between Wednesday and Friday the number of bunnies doubled, and
the number of dinosaurs doubled
- At what point are you actually told "how many" about the bunnies
and dinos?
Grad party
- (I feel broken record.) Notice that you don't know how many men
and women were invited. If your first guess doesn't work out,
guess again
- At no point in the process do you have a fractional number of
people. If you are getting a fractional number of people, you
should change your guess
- The number of people who came are a fraction of the number of
people who were invited, not the
number of people who said they would come
