Show and explain how to solve the following problem using the standard subtraction algorithm:

425 - 158

• Do the problem with base 10 blocks
• Record (write down) each step numerically in the standard algorithm format as you do it. 
• Explain aloud what you are doing at each step. Explain both the manipulative steps and the numerical steps. Make connections between the manipulative and number work. 
• Use appropriate place value language as you explain each step (use the words "tens" and "hundreds" as often as you reasonably can, and don't use the word "borrow".

You can do this just the same way I did in the videos (that's why I made the videos--so you would have some examples to follow). The point of this is for you to get practice in being slow and careful and using place value language a lot.

You should be using the SMART notebook and Jing to record these.  If you need more time, you may make 2 separate videos since Jing has a 5 minute limit on the recording time.
