Write up the 2nd grade addition lesson into a lesson plan of your own.
The most important things I'm looking for are:
Here is a template file you can use to type your lesson plan into.
Here us an example showing how I would do the same assignment for the perimeter area lesson we discussed in class. Note that I rewrote activity 4 to include some of the ideas we discussed: I made the irregular shape smaller (a leaf instead of a hand) so it wouldn't take as long, and I gave students one sheet to share instead of a sheet each to make it more likely that they would talk and collaborate together. Also notice that when I made a new worksheet, I put that worksheet into the lesson plan.
I found that it took me more than 2 hours to get the example to come out the way I wanted it to, so be realistic in planning your work time (it should look like you spent at least an hour on it). I know that when you're a full-time-job teacher that your lesson plans that you write will be a lot less detailed. This is practice for writing a show-off lesson plan: one that would go into a portfolio or similar professional file.
I'm expecting that you'll still have questions, and I'll still have suggestions to make: this is practice for the portfolio lessons you'll be writing later this semester.
