Lesson 7.6: Transformations: Flips, Turns and Slides practice answers

1. Identify for each picture whether it shows a flip, turn or slide:

a. Slide

b. turn (half turn)

c. flip (flip to the right)

d. turn (1/4 turn clockwise)

e, flip--this one is very tricky because it is a flip up/down, but it is shown moved over to the side.*

f. Slide

A more typical version of one like e that's kind of tricky to visualize is:

You can see that the figure and its image are both shown in relation to a grid, which you should think of as being the same grid.  You can practice more problems like this at http://www.ixl.com/math/grade-2/flip-turn-and-slide

2. Draw where the figure would be after sliding along the arrow:

3. Draw what this shape would look like after turning:

original a. 1/4 turn clockwise b. 1/4 turn counter clockwise c. 1/2 turn

4. Why do you think I didn't tell you clockwise or counterclockwise when I asked you to draw a 1/2 turn?

Because 1/2 turn clockwise ends up in the same place as 1/2 turn counterclockwise, because it's exactly 1/2 way around.

5. Draw where the figure would be after turning:

6. Draw where the figure would be after flipping across the line
