How to turn in homework and take quizzes
Homework will be submitted in Canvas:
- You will usually be doing your homework by writing on paper (because math notation on a computer is hard).
- You
will be getting your work onto a computer: if you have a scanner,
please use that to get an electronic copy of your work. If you do
not have a scanner, you can take pictures of your work with your cell
phone and email them to yourself to get it to your computer. Make
sure you have good lighting when you are taking pictures!
- You will be checking to make sure that your work is legible
when viewed on a a computer (if you write lightly in pencil, you will
need to find a way to write more darkly--pens are good for this. Good lighting when you take the picture helps too)
- It's helpful (but not necessary) for you to put all of your
images into a single Word document by copying and pasting them
in. Please make sure they are rotated so they are the right way
up, and if they can be enlarged, please enlarge them.
- Upload the file or files containing the images of your work into the related Canvas dropbox.
You will need to submit the homework files to get access to the
solutions (and you will need view the solutions page before getting
access to turn in the next file)
How to take the quizzes:
- To take a quiz, go to the assignment in Canvas that called
"request quiz", type something in to that assignment box, and submit
it. This will give you access to the next item, which will allow
you to...
- View the quiz problems. If the quiz problems don't show up
propertly in your browser (if something seems to be missing) then you
should download the file and view it with your usual .pdf viewer).
- You will then have a time limit of 90 minutes to complete the
quiz and turn it in (60 minutes to do the work + 30 minutes to fiddle
with the computer and get your work online). I calculate the time it
took you for the quiz by looking at the time when submitted the
"request quiz" document until when you submitted the finished quiz to
the relevant dropbox. If the computer/internet glitches or
something like that, just let me know.
- When you are working on the quizzes, you are only allowed to use the definitions and theorems in
the "Definitions and Theorems" list--no other outside notes or
help-sources (a calculator is OK, though rarely useful).
