Explaining Integers Assignment

1. Subtraction is adding the opposite chip version:
a. Show and/or explain how to model 2-(-4) using the boat/submarine/balloon model (similar to integer chips)
b. Show and/or explain how to model 2+4 using the boat/submarine/balloon model (similar to integer chips)
c. Use your diagrams to explain why 2-(-4) and 2+4 are equivalent (write sentences).  Your explanation should use the actions in the model, and not just rely on "I got the same number at the end"
Note: your pictures in a and b should show a different process.

2. Multiplying two negatives is the same as multiplying two positves chip version
a. Use the boat/sub/balloon or integer chip model to represent (-3)x(-4)
b. Use the boat/sub/balloon or integer chip model to represent 3x4.
c. Explain why these expressions are equivalent (always give the same answer).
Notes: The diagrams in a and b should not be identical
I should be able to tell whether (-3) is the amount in each group or the number of groups from your explanation or diagram, and you should use the same choice of which is the amount per group and which is the number of gropus in parts a and b.
Your explanation should use the actions in the model and not just rely on "I got the same number"

3. We often say that -4 is the opposite of 4.  Explain what the word "opposite" means in this context.
