Lesson 7.7: Frieze patterns with flips turns and slides practice answers

1. Draw what comes next in each transformation pattern:

2. a. There is a vertical line of symmetry between each shape and the next.  You should be able to draw in all of these symmetry lines.

b. Each shape is rotated by a 1/2 turn to get the next shape.  You should be able to figure out that the centers of rotation are in the middle between the shapes.

c. There is a horizontal symmetry line between the shapes on the bottom and the top.  You shole be able to sketch that symmetry line.

d. There is a horizontal symmetry line between the shapes on top and the shapes on bottom.  There are vertical symmetry lines between pairs of shapes.   You should be able to figure out where to draw all of these lines. Also each pair of shapes can be rotated by a 1/2 turn to get the shapes directly to its right.  I would expect you to be able to find at least one of these centers of rotational symmetry.

e. Each shape is rotated by 1/4 turn counterclockwise to get the next shape.  I don't necessarily expect you to be able to find the centers of rotation for these turns.
