Assignment 1: Writing word problems to be solved by direct modeling

For each of the problem types that are typically solved by direct modeling by children: JRU, SRU, JCU, SCU, PPW-WU, PPW-PU, and CDU, write:

• one word problem that is as easily modeled as you can make is
• one word problem that would be harder to direct model
• an explanation of what makes your easier problem easier, and what makes your harder problem harder.

(That means 14 word problems and 7 explanations)

Of the harder problems, there should be at least:

• one that is harder because of sequence ordering,
• at least one that is harder because of a continuous context, and
• the JCU problems should be distinguished by having or not having a "how many needed" problem phrasing.
